State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced earlier this week the winners of the newly created 2022 California Pivotal Practice (CAPP) Award Program. This award program has taken the place of the California Distinguished Schools (DS) Program this year. It honors and recognizes schools and districts that went above and beyond to implement innovative practices during the 2020–21 school year when California required schools to offer distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Forensics isn’t your typical class in middle school, but thanks to mother-daughter duo, Michelle and Noelle Martinez, what started out as an after-school club nine years ago at Thurston Middle School (TMS) has also become an extremely popular and sought after 7th grade elective rotation for the last five years.
Laguna Beach Early Learning Community Task Force’s Passport to Learning Event Brought in Record Numbers
On Saturday, March 12, 2022, the Laguna Beach Early Learning Community Task Force hosted 56 parents and caregivers and 48 young children at the 4th Annual Passport to the Learning event, a free, in-person early learning, family fun adventure at the Laguna Beach Community and Susi Q Center Terrace designed to help families learn simple, yet effective ways to build school readiness skills for children 0-5 years old.
Laguna Beach Unified Board of Education is proud to announce the newly renovated 2.86-acre Thurston Middle School Athletic Field opening. To provide community space for the youth of Laguna, the Board of Education began discussions around renovating the field in 2015 as part of the facilities master planning process and approved the renovation in August 2020.
On Monday, February 7, 2022, Laguna Beach Unified School District will launch a new anonymous tip reporting system called WeTip2.0. This tip reporting service enables students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders to make anonymous (or non-anonymous if the reporter chooses this feature) tips to site safety team members to launch an investigation, provide support, intervene, and resolve school-related safety matters.
